The weather almost defeated us, but in the end fifteen intrepid dancers (plus Ann, whose help with the hall and the catering was invaluable) made it to the workshop in Swansea on 23rd November 2024. The aim was to dance a programme of selected dances which were also being danced simultaneously (or at least within a 24-hour period) by Scottish Country Dancers across the globe.
The rain may have poured down, but spirits were high, and despite a delayed start we managed to walk through and dance ten dances. Thank you to Heather and Tim for getting things under way while some of the rest of us were still coping with the effects of a motorway closure and the consequent traffic jams!
The fifteen dancers (from a variety of groups across South Wales) rose to the occasion, coping well with formations less familiar to some, such as the spiral progression and the knot. Cheers went up when we triumphantly met the challenge of the reels in “Cadgers in the Canongate”.
We added to the sociability of the occasion with a raffle, hot drinks, mince pies, satsumas and lots of chat. We also appreciated the background information and pictures provided by the RSCDS on all the dances. This generated further discussion and shared personal experiences.
We hope that other groups around the world also relished their inter-continental dance session. For us, it was a heart-warming experience. Thank you to all those who braved Storm Bert to join us!
